Manila, Philippines – “There is hope for drug addicts.”
This was the title of Bro. Eli Soriano’s newest article published on his Controversy Extraordinary blog (7/28/2016). It is the continuation of his “Drug Addiction: the Mystery Begins with Proving” that tackles mainly the dangers of illegal drugs and the possibility of human renovation through God’s word.
On his blog, Bro. Eli stated that science alone cannot help in human total transformation. There must be divine intervention to fully attain the process. Citing the biblical passages, he said it can be achieved through God’s power and mercy. But, one must have faith and recieve His word so that the word of God will work in a person to change his/her whole being.
“The word of God is quick and powerful that works within a person of faith,” says Bro. Eli. “The word of God is received – if received – and it is what works within one that believes,“ he added.
Bro. Eli Soriano, through his decades of continous preaching, has been a witness on how powerful the word of God to fully change the person’s being. From a wicked person to a God-fearing man. From drug slaves to God-fearing servants.
“There are some ministers of the MCGI and many members who are former drug addicts. Particularly those that were converted through our Prison Ministry, they have become God-fearing and responsible persons and family men. Take note that they were not members before they were imprisoned but only converted when in prison.
I have seen how these men– former drug addicts – struggle hard through faith to let go their vices and addiction to obey God’s call. Now, with God’s help and mercy, some of them have become able ministers of the gospel and are living examples for others who want to change. There is really hope for drug addicts! (excerpts from Controversy blog)” Bro. Eli tells some true-to- life stories of some members in Members Church of God International (MCGI) who were former drug victims.
Changing lives through Bro. Eli Soriano’s preaching
One of whom is “Burgundy” (not his real name), a former drug addict and a pusher, in an interview with UNTV News Hataw Balita, confessed of having involvement before in some of the large illegal drug trades in the Philippines.
“Gusto ko po yung laging pagka-kakain, naka-shabu. Pagka aalis gusto ko naka-shabu. Pag-magtatrabaho gusto ko naka-shabu. Pag walang shabu, parang wala akong gana.” Burgundy explained on how drugs affected his life.
He admits that it was difficult for him to change his way of life even if there was an urge and willingness in his heart to change. It was so until the time he heard the biblical preaching of Bro. Eli Soriano in his religious program Ang Dating Daan.
“Kasi sa puso ko, gusto kong magbago, pero hindi ko alam kung papaano. Di ko alam eh. Yon po, nagbasa ako ng Bible hindi ko maintindihan. Hanggang sa dumating yung panahon na narinig ko si Bro. Eli. Yun po talaga ang nagpabago ng mga pananaw ko sa buhay. Kaya naging maayos po ang buhay ko.” He explained on how Bro. Eli’s preaching changed his life
To date, Burgundy is now an advocate of hope for change for the people who became victims of drugs.
“Huwag kayong mawawalan ng pag-asa. Lalo na sasabihin mo na ‘wala na akong pag-asa, ayoko na,’ ‘wag isipin nyo po kaya tayo nabubuhay lahat po kasi may dahilan.”
